My axolotl has stopped eating and doesn’t seem to be moving around much. She hasn’t eaten since last Tuesday and I’m getting worried. She usually eats a mix of frozen blood worms, frozen prawns and live worms.

Her water temp is 17 C, PH about 7.6, Amonoa, Nitrate and Nitrite all at 0 so these levels seem to be normal.

Her gills are looking less feathery and her tail has a link on it, any thoughts on what could be wrong and what I need to do to help?

Here are some pictures of what she looks like

how are you testing the water? strips or liquid?
keep her in a tub kept cold with an air stone in it. change water daily with dechlorinated water.
get the chemicals for and use holtfreters solution, information here... Axolotls - Requirements & Water Conditions in Captivity
if her legs were thickening up along with loss of dorsal fin because of how her eyes are then there could be a possibility of morphing, but because of the brown look along with emaciated body I'm inclined towards nitrite or nitrate poisoning,
holtfreters solution will help reverse the issue, also look into giving her methylene blue baths, info here... Tubbing and Safe Meds - Oregon Axolotls
if you are using strip tests get liquid tests, if you are using liquid tests either tests aren't performed right or they are faulty.

I second wolfen. Also, check expiration on water testing kit. It looks like she's been swimming around in bad water for a few days and you might not have noticed due to faulty test kits. This could also be a bacterial infection. Do you feed her live or wild caught pray?

You need drastic water changes.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I’ve done a couple of water changes, purchased a new kit (I was using liquid already) and will test the water again to make sure it’s fine before returning her to the tank.

I’ve put her in a tub and doing the methylene blue baths now.

Her food has always come from the pet shop with the occasional worm from the compost (which the pet shop/aquarium I got her from suggested). There are no chemicals at all used in the compost to infect the worms.

She is starting to move around more so fingers crossed she starts eating again soon. Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
