Hello there people, I just bought an aquarium the size demensions of 80x50x40

So I was looking for which fish I would decide to keep in and would give me a new hobby, then I came across an axolotl and wanted one so I ordered 14 eggs and I wanna make sure I am looking after them correctly, I have researched as much as I can in these creatures and so then I begun, I set up the tank declorhinated the water filtered it heated it for 24 hours then let it cool, I also tested the Ph which was 7.5, furthermore I then included the axolotl eggs and have been developing for the last 3 days growing really fast apart from one which didn't look as if it was going develop at all and died, I have the water temperature at 22 degrees Celsius (I do not use the heater no more), I have blood worms in my fridge for when they hatch but further researched revealed that try don't eat dead food at first, is there and alternative?

Thank you :)

You wont need a heater, they love cold water. I use baby brine shrimp for my babies. It is so cute watching them eat.....it looks like they have the hiccups.
You wont need them is a big tank at first because they wont find the food. They dont hunt until they have legs, so the less water = closer the food

Okay thank you lea I will be sure to reduce the water content, are these baby brine shrimp available on the Internet-do they have to be alive- is it possible to store them until the eggs hatch

i am curious is it possible to raise axolotl eggs and babies in more of a temporary container/s rather than a tank? and move them to a tank as they grow?
are eggs easy to receive by mail?
do eggs need a filter?
do they need water changes?
i was thinking i could cycle my tank and use water from the tank for water and water changes until they move to the tank?

how do you grow brine shrimp?

sorry to jump on and intrude with all of my own questions, i hope you don't mind :D

Hello, I am hatching my first lot of eggs, day 7 and all is well! no filter required for the eggs or water change for eggs. Heaps of utube videos on growing brine shrimp- just about to start in the next couple of days....finger crossed! I am planning to use smaller containers for my babys once they are hatched, my eggs are in a seprate tank to the mum & Dad!

Are you wanting some eggs, I have some due to hatch next tues....maybe a bit late for post, but I see you are in Vic. PM me if youa re interested!

Hello there.
You should take the eggs out of that tank and put them in a small tupperwear container or something similar. If you raise them in that large tank it is going to be extremely difficult for the larvae to get their food. If you use baby brine shrimp the shrimp will not live long in fresh water and will very likely die before your larvae can eat them.

Larvae don't hunt for food, they sit on the bottom and wait for something to swim by their face. They also have to eat a ton of baby brine shrimp to survive. It's much better to keep them in a small container with shallow water so they will be surrounded by the shrimp and be able to fill their stomachs.

Please read this page. It will tell you all you need to know and if you follow the instructions you will be successful. I was able to rear several hundred larvae to the juvenile stage by the information I learned from it:

Axolotls - Rearing from Egg to Adult

Thanks very much for the help!! i will PM you maree8ree :D
