Hello, after a year of owning 3 axolotls I came to their tank to find about 2 dozen (maybe more) eggs laid by the filter. I would like to raise these eggs to juveniles and I am curious on what to do with them as I would consider my self a first time breeder. I live in New Zealand and know that the temperature of the tank for the eggs has to be around 20 degrees Celsius and I am wondering how can this be done. The eggs are surrounded in a slim/jell like material and are white with a black/brown top (is that healthy..?)

Thanks and I would greatly appreciate any answers. I will also upload some photos once I connect my phone to the computer.

Hi Lola,
My axolotl laid her second batch of eggs yesterday, and I am also a first time breeder. From what I understand, brown/black and white eggs mean that a wildtype laid them. The white is the egg sack and the black is the actual embryo.

I put a heater in with my eggs and set it at the lowest setting to try to keep the temp consistent. it worked well and they are really fun to watch develop. I would suggest starting to get food for them now, because I waited until the end and panicked when I could not get the food to hatch quick enough.

Good luck with your new babies!
Nina
