Hey guys,
I've just found some detached heads of my Axolotl larvae. They're only around 3 days old, so I don't see how it's possible that they're eating each other? I've been feeding them brine shrimp, but surely they can't be harming them either?
Any idea what's happening?

Yeah they will eat each other.

Try separating them by size and increasing the amount of food they're getting, that should help

Thanks for the reply:happy:

They're all pretty much the same size at the moment (around 1cm)

So, they will eat each other, even though they've just been born? I thought that didn't happen until they grew a little bigger.

I am a bit sceptical that they are eating each other so soon. I would think that their mouths would be far too small. At this age they eat very tiny food like newly hatched brine shrimp. I think it is more likely that you have had some die off and the bodies have disintegrated. Could you possibly add a photo of you see some more like this please?

That's what I was thinking. Their mouths are way too small at the moment, but I was having trouble understanding why there were heads floating around the tub.
I'll post pictures if I see any more (I flushed the ones I found), thanks for your help/opinion

Considering that baby newly hatched axies don't even usually eat for the first 4-7 days, I'm pretty sure they are not eating each other. They have such tiny mouths that they can only eat newly hatched brine shrimp.

Are you sure they're actually heads and not something else?

They should be eating within a couple of days

They were definitely heads, I could see eyes and gills. I'm fairly certain now that Julia is right about them being dead and disintegrating. I found a head this morning and a shriveled body not too far from it. So far there's only been a few golden albino deaths, the wild types seem to be a lot stronger for some reason.

Thanks for all of your help guys :)
