Axolotl in The Tree of Life

I was just watching The Tree of Life again after having watched for a University assignment years ago. It's a bit more unusual of a movie if you're not used to the way that Terrence Malick directs movies. But I noticed in one of the sequences near the beginning of the movie, where it shows the creation of the universe and then to the ocean and other bodies of water, there is a shot of leucistic axolotl swimming around, right after a whole bunch of jellyfish and a sea slug are shown. So the axolotl has been making chameos in pop culture since at least 2011.
