Hi everyone. I've just come across this advert on Preloved for a 'healthy' axolotl.
I have reported the advert and messaged the seller but have had no responses yet.

I wondered if any members nearby might be interested in saving the poor thing. I know the selling of sick animals shouldn't be encouraged, but I can't bear the thought of the poor thing suffering. Failing that, does anybody have any ideas as to what to do....

Preloved | rare golden axolotl for sale in Wallingford, Oxfordshire

Oh my!? That is considered healthy!? This infuriates me! I hope some loving person can rescue this poor soul. This is far beyond healthy. "Rare golden albino" i didnt know they were rare? I thought they just werent as common.
A healthy rare golden albino. Hmph healthy. I would be ashamed to post this ad!

Sadddd. It looks like a salamander.

Buying sick/damaged animals just encourages people to sell and mistreat more of them. That particular axolotl may be morphing naturally and may not have been mistreated but I seriously doubt it as the seller does not even mention the lack of gills.

I reported the advert to Preloved and sent a picture of a healthy golden axolotl as comparison, as I didn't want the seller to get away with listing something in obvious need of help as healthy. It looks like there's something very wrong with one of its front arms too.
I was hoping that the seller might opt for giving the poor thing to someone who can help if enough people pointed out it is not a healthy axolotl, but to be honest I'm worried they might just flush it :(

Healthy? :(

Yeah maybe offering like £2 or saying i'll take for free!

It makes me sad when I see these ads. Firstly as the poor little guy is suffering, but also because people out there don't realise how amazing axolotls are as this is what they see. And that's what they see in the pet shops too. Well in Australia anyhow. I agree that offering to take it away for free or for two pounds would be a reasonable compromise.

Unfortunately it's too far away for me and I don't have the space for another. I hope someone can help though. Still haven't heard back from the seller or Preloved where it is advertised.

Preloved got back to me saying I should report it to the RSPCA and sent a link for the RSPCA to contact them on. They said they would help as much as possible.
I called the RSPCA who say they will investigate it if they can get an address for the seller so have emailed them the ad listing, a healthy axie pic for comparison, and the response from Preloved. Can't think what else I can do. I doubt the seller will provide me with their details since I've already told him what I think of his listing.... Hopefully Preloved will give the RSPCA the address.

Hopefully they will help the poor thing. Well done getting their attention

Cant someone else with a preloved account agree to buy it get address and pass onto you to pass to rspca? X

Might be better if they told the RSPCA themselves if they got the address, as the RSPCA know that Preloved wouldn't give me the contact info.

Hello Everette,

Many thanks for your email. We will look in to this further and take action where necessary.

In the meantime, if you feel this animal is being treated cruelly, I would recommend you contact the RSPCA as they do have the powers to investigate and take action if appropriate. You can get their contact details from the link below:

Worded slightly differently to the response I got, so that must be a good thing. It's not just a standard automated response anyway :)

What a good outcome, good to hear that the address was provided.

I'm not sure the address has been provided... haven't heard anything from the RSPCA yet.

If I lived closer I would go grab the poor thing and find space for it.... I'm a bugger for taking on poorly animal's....

Plus would be on here more often asking for help and advice..... It's so wrong....

The advert is still up and hasn't been changed. Very disappointed considering Preloved have had at least 2 complaints about it.

Just got this response from the seller :

"Hi

When we brought the axolotl he had no gills because the ones he was kept with were attacking him and sadly he never grew them back. "

Perhaps the seller should have mentioned this when they advertised it. Apart from the lack of gills, I think the axolotl looks bodily in good shape.
