Hey all, I'm a new axolotl owner, I've only had my little guy for about a week.
When I first got him, I was constantly removing poop from his tank, maybe once or twice daily.
It's been about 2 days and I haven't spotted any waste to be cleaned.
Am I underfeeding him? Is this normal? Could it potentially have gotten sucked into the filter? (I don't know about the last one, it's not very strong, but I'm not about to throw any options out.)

-He's about 3.5 inches long
-I feed him once a day, around noon.
-Newt pellets and blood worms
I toss maybe 5 pellets into his bowl and then take a small chunk (maybe 2cmx2cm) chunk of frozen blood worms, and mix those in water before basting them into the food bowl.
-He doesn't seem starving, as he takes his time eating, but he still eats all of it.

Not sure if I should feed him more or not? I heard that axies are moochers and it's easy to overfeed so I was limiting him to that.

Thanks for reading.

Axies have been known to eat their poop.

What substrate do you have?

Poop disintegrates pretty quickly. You'll notice brown 'dust' if you vacuum your substrate thoroughly.

If the diet is predominantly pellet then the poo will be dusty like Kaysie has mentioned - higher worm content will leave darker more solid poop - but if you don't clean it fast, it soon breaks up & yes apparently it's delicious o_O hmm

Yeah if I don't clean mine up quick we've seen him eat it a few times. Same with his vomit this morning.. Lovely :D Wait a few more days until you start worrying. :)

Thanks all. :)

I have an aquarium sand substrate.

However to avoid having him accidentally eat sand, I feed him in a deep dish that he climbs into :)
