Im setting up my tank for my first axie. Im receiving her Wednesday and I was wondering what kind of filter should I get? Im going to PetSmart tomorrow and getting one. Thanks. :D

You should get a bigger tank..10 Gallons is the bare minimum for an adult Axolotl. For a 10 gallon you can use a hang on top cascade filter...but make sure you have something in the way of the output to diminish the flow caused by the filter.

I am partial to sponge filters. I like the amount of surface area they have for beneficial bacteria to grow on.

There are many ways to accomplish the same task.

What works for one may not work for the other and so on and so forth

I agree with Michael. I love sponge filters. They've got very low flow for the amount of filtering they do.

Thanks and Eric Im not getting an adult one. I have a 30 gal for when she gets older

Hey PinkSkullCity, glad to hear your getting into the axolotl craze!

I was thinking, if you don't have some sort of restriction preventing you from doing so, ( space- no stand, whatever  ) you should just plonk your little monster into the 30 gallon tank and be done with it.
More space for your growing axie, you wont have to change it once she out-grows it, plus; with more water volume you get a more stable environment- temperature and your nitrogen cycle being the main factors I am talking about there.

Of course you have probably thought of all this and there is something preventing you from doing so!
So, sorry for stating the obvious if that's what I've gone and done here.

Hope you enjoy your axolotl as much as I do mine!

Best wishes,
Rhys.
