Ive got 24 axolotl eggs in a 15 litre tank. The tank has a small HOB filter and small gravel as a substrate the temperature stays at a fairly constant 20C. The eggs are still attached to the plant that they got layed on. I think they are about 5 days old and im wondering do i perform 25% water changes now or every couple of days after they hatch? I dont want to disturb them but i dont want them to go all fugusy and stuff. Oh and should i remove the gravel before they hatch or not to worry bout it as yet?

Hi Arkie, I keep my eggs in a 1ft tank - no filter, no gravel, just some plants. Doing a 20% water change every few days.

When they hatch, I like to remove a few and put them in smaller containers - but this time I'm leaving most in the 1ft tank - until they grow a little.

thanx for that. ill do a water change today (they have only been in the tank since sunday night). i havent noticed any changes in the eggs so im guessing they would be only just under 5 days old today???? the tank temp stays between 20 - 22C so how long till i see some changes do you think???? im just tooo excited and im having trouble waiting!!!!

I noticed changes with the embryo after a few days , the ones that were left behind in the tank looked like long commas, and the ones left out side had started to flatten out ( colder out side and in shallower water) . At the temperature your tank is you should see that the shape has changed.

These are approx 5 days old, and these had been in a shallow tray so kept warmer ( had a 'heat wave' )

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
