Hello,

My axolotl laid eggs for the first time last night! Both parents are leuciristic and the eggs are dark grey/black with a white spot. I'm really excited but concerned about the number of eggs. I read that it is advisable to give away or kill most of the eggs and just focus on a few. Obviously I'd rather give them away, but I am not sure of the best way to ship them (especially in this hot weather), or who to send them to. I can't post in the for sale/give away forum for some reason. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

The posts in the for sale section have to be approved first. We have breeding axies and get anywhere from 100 to like 300 eggs every few weeks. We ship them out to a few different members of this forum. You have about 2 weeks to ship them before you need to worry about hatchers, so pick a relatively cool day. You could also choose express shipping. We package ours in small water bottles with cool, clean h20 that's been dechlorinated. You can include a home made ice pack or two, by freezing zip lock baggies full of water and placing them in the shipping box. :)

Thanks Samantha and Ally! But it looks like this batch is gone :( some of the eggs have fungus inside and the rest have what looks like fungus on the jelly around them. It happened so fast. I had salt in the water but maybe it wasn't enough. Also the ambient temperature is 70. It's really hard to cool this place down with a window ac. Luckily it's only this warm for a couple months.

why did you have salt in the water?

There is no need for salt in the water, they are freshwater creatures. How much salt are you putting in?

I add 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. I know they are freshwater but I was told to add it anyway because it reduces stress and infections. Also the water here is soft.
