So I recently go two axolotl and I noticed that my albino axolotl's Dorsal Crest was hurt. I'm really worried about them and want to make sure that I'm doing everything I can. I'm not sure if this is because of anything wrong with the water or that they are stressed, or it could just be as simple them hurting themselves on a plant. I made sure that the plants were soft enough before I bought them. And the nitrate and nitrate levels as well as ammonia levels are good. And the PH is at 7.2 so I'm not really sure what it could be. They aren't showing signs of stress and are eating just fine. I could be overthinking things, but what do you guys think?

i had a similar thing happen with my own axolotl when i first got him - he damaged his tail on the way to my house
i wouldn’t worry about it as long as your water quality is good, it should heal up fairly quickly

as for what cut him, does he have a tank mate that could have injured him?

Yeah he has a tank mate, but I also noticed a similar thing on him too. Its not as big as the albino one as my wildtype axolotl is much smaller. I honestly think they hurt themselves on a plant and since the albino one is bigger it hurt him more then my wildtype. Since I starting noticing it on both it was getting me worried about the water and maybe something is off with it

they couldn’t have been injured from the water quality, no. i suggest switching out opportunities live plants - java ferns works well :)

Okay thanks. I saw online about the Dorsal crest folding in because of the water quality so I was getting scared that I had a problem with it. I'll switch the plant out though
