I currently feed my Axolotls 1/2 a cube of frozen bloodworms each every second day, i was just wondering if it was a good diet for them or if I might need to feed them something else since I am a new owner I just go off what the pet shop tells me but I would like to know what you guys think? thank you :)

How big are the axolotls? Half a cube each is not alot of food plus blood worms are not the healthiest choice for adult axolotls. i was told earth worms and night crawlers are the best choice for axolotl, when i drop a one in my tank those suckers are gone withing minuets.

Here`s a nutritional value for Amphibian food

What is the best thing to feed them, I use to give them meal worms but found that the worms died quickly and i had a lot left over (i think this is due to the hot climate in Australia)?

I feed my adult 1 or 2 night crawlers per week - but when he was growing he could go through one every other day.

Night crawlers are really the best for them. Blackworms are okay, too (live). The frozen cubes really don't provide much nutrition.

If you want an easy staple, Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets are great and can be a used alone.

Hello again,

Earthworms are the best staple food for your axolotls, easy to find at bunnings or online and you might like to set up a worm farm so you have an endless supply.

Also as said above, live black worms are good (order online as they can be hard to find) and also the sinking carnivore pellets. I'm thinking of getting some cherry shrimp for mine to help clean the tank and eventually become a tasty snack too :D

As everyone has said, earthworms are the best way to go! There's a brand that some pet stores sell, but the worms are quite small so another brand might be better
Also, mealworms are hard to digest, so I'd reduce/remove the use :)

Hikari sinking carnivore pellets are a good choice like mentioned above i used them no problem only thing i dint like is the smell of the pellets so now i mainly feed worms and pellets as a occasional meal ( once every two weeks). its also good to vary the diet so you can still feed them the blood worms but keep there main diet on earthworms or nightcrawlers.

Aside from all the nutritional benifits of earthworms, they make the tank easier to keep clean! I found bloodworms go everyone and it only takes one to get stuck somewhere to start fouling the water- very fustrating!

Also judging by my axolotls reactions, they prefer eating live worms. They are even more eager for food then normal!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
