Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that different colored axolotls hatch at different rates. Mine were a mixture of leucistic and wild type with a few really dark or melanistic. Out of the 200 that hatched, I placed them in tubs of twenty five at a time, and I have noticed that the first tub is half and half (leucistic and melanistic) the next tub has only 6 leucistic then next tub only one, then tubs of only wild. Was curious if anyone else has noticed that the leucistic axies seem to hatch first? They hatched over a week and the leucistics seem to be on day one and 2 only? Just Curious.

Hello mizzerman, i bought some leucistic eggs and they hatched on day 14 and 15. My own axolotls(golden albino male wildtype female) laid eggs, good mix of both colours, these took till day 19 to start hatching and were still hatching by day 25, most of the golden eggs hatched first, even though they were noticeably smaller than most of the darker/wildtypes. I think the temperature that you keep the eggs at can determine hatch times, but maybe there is other factors that determine when they hatch, maybe colour is a factor, hopefully one or two of the experts on here will give us there knowledge on this, its interesting for sure.

Colour has nothing to do with hatch time. Temperature is the biggest factor.

All eggs were kept at the same temperature, same container, same conditions. I just found it curious that all the leucistics hatched at the beginning, on the first day, and the wilds hatched for the next week. THought it might be a difference in growth rates in different phenotypes???
