Hi guys!
I am getting my first axolotl tomorrow!! I really want black substrate, but have looked everywhere and can’t seem to find any that’s definitely less than 1 mm. The best bet I can find right now is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076FVMK2T#Ask

Has anybody used this product/had luck with it?
If you can send some links my way with suggestions for black sand substrates that’d be awesome!

Another thing to keep in mind is my axolotl will be around 4”. Should I wait to incorporate substrate/sand until he’s bigger? I do have a large, flat rock that I was planning on feeding him on rather than on the sand.

Also, has anybody ever covered the bottom of their axolotl tank with stones? Such as smooth river rock (like the pic attached). I thought that might be cool.

If you have any tips for a first time axolotl owner, I’d love to hear them! Thank you:)

I had large river rocks around the edges of my tank and sand in the middle. Looked great but it was annoying to clean as i had to remove each rock individually. And muck gets trapped under them.
Just check they are safe to use for a fishtank.
