Axolotl Bark Video HD

Wow, that's awesome! I am new to the whole Axolotl "scene" (I don't even own my own yet,) and this is so cool! Do most axolotls make sounds, or is this a really rare occurrence?

One of mine makes the exact same noise. I only hear it when I'm in bed (and in another room)! I can't figure out which one of them it is--or maybe they all make that noise??? :)

Oooh I've seen a few posts of people saying their axolotls barked. I wondered how it sounded, mine's never done it. Thanks for sharing this! :D

Heey !
Welcome to the Axolotl World, you will love it :)
Well, no, this is not common, axolotl don't make noises, only a few of them does.

Haha The first time my axolotl did this noise I thought it was my hedgehog, the noise is really loud, maybe in this video you can't notice this, but it is.
I don't think all of them do the noise, because it is really not common, I bet is only one of them.
I have 4 axolotls and only 1 of them makes noises.

I have seen those post too and the same way as you I also haven't see any video of an axolotl barking, so I decide to share this, I'm glad it help you to figure up how was the sound haha

You're Welcome :)

This IS common and widespread among lunged aquatic caudates. In addition to the gulping sound, they can make a louder, deeper sound when grabbed as the air in their lungs is exhaled rapidly in preparation for diving.

Why you say is common? :s
Most axolotls don't do it, so why are you saying is common?

Because it is xD And as i said, it´s not just an axolotl thing. My C.pyrrhogaster do it all the time when taking air and my T.dobrogicus can make a rather loud noise when picked up. Unlike an actual bark, this noise is not a conscious sound made by the animal, it´s just accidental.

So, you say all amphibians make this noise? and that's because it is not an axolotl thing?
(Sorry for insist so much, I have been reading about axolotls for several years and I have never read someone saying that is common, also in spanish there is no information of this, here in Caudata you can find a few post of people saying that their axolotls do this but they're only a few.).

Awsome, I love C.pyrrhogaster and T.dobrogicus, do you have any topic or threat of they?

No, not all amphibians do that noise. Aquatic, lunged amphibians do.
The noise is made by the gulping action. It doesn´t neccesarily happen everytime they gulp air, but it does frequently. In addition, there´s the loud noise many caudates make (both terrestrial and aquatic) when grabbed which is not entirely clear wether it´s purely accidental or intended to deter predators.
The reason there aren´t that many threads discussing these sounds (although there are a few) is because most people don´t find them that remarkable.

As for threads on T.dobrogicus and C.pyrrhogaster, sure, you can use the search function to find them.

Awww that made me feel sad a bit sad ? My dad axie went to a new home recently and he made that sound every day. First time that I really missed him since he left.

Aww. Mine just don't sounds cute :(
They sound like people pooping and farting when they gulp some air.
