I just received a txt from my Mum who is holidaying in London and she says there are a great amount of lovely 10-12" long axolotls there! Has anybody visited London Zoo, or indeed any other captive Axies?

They do have some in Bristol zoo (at least they did a few months back) unfortunately my son wouldnt let us have more than a fleeting glance at the time as he wanted to see anything and everything. I'm hopefully off to the zoo again during the holidays so hopefully he'll let me have a proper look this time :p

I've seen the ones in Bristol zoo, they also have some at Slimbridge, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust centre in Gloucestershire.

Though the ones I saw last time didn't look too healthy.

they have many smaller ones at coltswolds wildlife park, on small gravel!?

Hi Mike

I went to White Post Farm at the weekend (in Nottinghamshire) where they have a reptile/amphib house - they had a few axies there, both for sale and just to view - unfortunately, all the axies had virtually no gills, just stumps and they had gravel in their tank and a waterfall type thing, which meant there was a really strong current in the tank - I have emailed White Post farm this week and gave them advice in what I hope was a friendly manner - gave them a link for this website too, so hopefully, they will take my hint!

well having been back to Bristol zoo yesterday I looked at the axies. I only saw one but my OH swears there were 3 a couple of minutes before I looked. The tank seemed slightly small (if indeed there are 3+ however my OH thinks there must be an adjoining tank they can swim in and out off (as there were like pipes in the background part of the tank which would possibly allow an axie to get through) which makes sense if 2 managed to vanished in the few minutes of him looking and me.. The one I did see seemed healthy enough bar a small nip in his tail.
