Hi im hoping for abit of advice ive upgraded my 3ft tank to a 4ft tank and ever since ive done this my axolotis (yoda and rose) seem to stay in one corner and hardly move around.... in the 3ft one they were always darting all over the place but have since stopped they seem to be eating and are getting large but i havent seen any poop for a while either ?? do you think they are unhappy ?? i have a large fluval 4 filter which can be abit noisy also could it be to strong for them im totally confused
they seem healthy enough are a good size and a good shape they have a full set of frills (as i call them) they are allways back or up when they are jumping around
any advice will be gratefully recieved x

Hi sazle3010 :D
I'm no expert and rather new here but I have recently upgraded my Alice & Milo to a four foot tank and it took a while for them to get used to the size change and days before they decided to try to explore. I cant comment on any of the other reasons just to say perhaps they are like us and sometimes need time to adjust to change?

This sounds ok to me, larger axolotls do less than juvies, doing nothing is what they do best. They are eating and growing so they are unlikely to be sick. What you are seeing is content axolotls.

Tank changes are stressful for any aquatic animal - I would give them some time to settle in and watch your water parameters. :)

+ 1 to Chirple.

It may take a few weeks for them to get used to it. Have you checked the water parameters? Did you use the same filter or a new one? Did you use the seeded media from the old one (if you got a new filter)?

Remember most of the beneficial bacteria is in the filter. So if you've used a new one with new media you will be going through a cycle again.

Good luck!!

I upgraded my axies from a 20 gallon to a 75 gallon and for the first week they wouldn't go to the other half. I think it just took them awhile to get use to all the space they had.

Setting up a new tank offset the nitrogen cycle, my money is on the fact that they're adjusting to all the new water. Give them a week or two and they'll be back to normal.

Also keep doing small water changes. Thanks.

thanks for the advice they seem to be abit happier now coming a little further out every now and then i think the filter is abit strong for them as its as if they are being dragged down the filter end but they are still eating etc so going to give them abit longer :) and see how it goes thanks
