I'm in a dilema here...some of our eggs have started hatching, however, the 1st lot of shrimp eggs didn't hatch...bad batch I think...& I can't get any other food that I've ordered till next week, Tu - W. I rang the pet shop where I brought the eggs from & was told they will do what they can. I'm willing to pay whatever it costs to try & save these babies. I'm very upset

The eggs began hatching yesterday. I have been chopping up their parents food very finely & swirling the larvae & food around to give the impression that it's live food...some of the babies have survived this far. Meantime I'm attempting to hatch more shrimp eggs. I have turned off the heater to other eggs to forestall them hatching.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Regards, Ros.

Dont panic, they may not be hungry yet, they live of the yoke stuff that is already in their bellies for the first few days, mine didnt start eating till about 3 days after hatching, so u have got a bit of time.is there anyway you can get live black worms? thats what im feeding my babies and they love em! if you can just chop them up and drop them in(they wriggle around after being chopped up) i bought mine for about $2 a bag, so they are not very expensive. i hope this helps

Thanks Hayley

I think the larvae did eat some of the adults food I gave them as some of it was gone.
Anyway I got some black worms & a different brand of shrimp eggs this afternoon.
All 9 larvae born yesterday are still alive.
In appreciation, Ros.

i had the same problem finding food for my larvae till I went to this pet shop and he gave me this liquid called liquifry 2 the brand name isinterpet and you put about 2 -3 drops in the water and I have feed that to them for about two weeks and they are doing great I am just starting them on brine shrimp in the last week so good luck with your axolotl larvae

Ros - Add heat to the brine shrimp hatchery you can hatch shrimp in 24 hours.

I got some liquid baby fish food...it's brand name is Liqui-Fresh & it's produced by Paragon. The larvae are increasing in size so it must be ok for them.

Thanks anyway Cynthia

but I decided to give up on trying to hatch the brine shrimp eggs. I & others did everything according to directions, however, all our attempts failed. I was very upset...but then I thought well the larvae wouldn't eat brine shrimp in their natural setting.
