just wondering why everyone shortens axolotl to axie - when lotl feels more fitting (to me, at least!)

My friends and I call them "axles," pronounced the same as like a car's axle. "Axolotl," really is a mouthful sometimes!

I like Axo (AHK-so) myself, while a lady at a local shop says 'kslotl'

I'm with Clarence. I say "axo", my mouth just won't spit out " 'lotl" and therefore neither will my fingers. LOL!
