Hi all, Axel is now in his new home. He is in a 2ft Clearseal tank. I glued black sand with aquarium sealant. The background is a sculpted tile made for Juwel aquariums, which was also glued with sealant. The cave slots into a groove I carved in the tile, and can be removed for cleaning. I have one plastic plant in there. Lighting is provided by 5 blue LEDs which are supposed to mimic moonlight. The transformer which powers them can be switched from 3 to 9 volts to dim the LEDs.

I also made a lid out of wood which I coated with sticky back plastic as I didn't want to use paint. It has a metal grille over a large hole which is cut to allow the fan to cool the water. Whaddya think?

I like this..maybe a few more plants though .

...now I need a nice lid for my tank........

I have a similar set-up but without the fan to cool the water (which I think is an AWESOME idea!). I also wanted to ask you about using the sealant to glue the sand.. I'm such a newbie at all this!

Hi, I just got a guide from here, the link is below. It works well so far, my only worry is that the sand will eventually detach itself over time. Bear in mind though that aquarium silicone STINKS so do it in a well-ventialted area! When the stink has completely gone, the silicone has cured :)
