Axanthic Axie?

Hi, everyone! I got my axolotl, Pinto, about two months ago. I still am not 100% sure what type he is. To me, he looks like an axanthic, but it’s also possible he is a light melanoid or some type I’m not aware of. As he’s gotten a little bigger, he’s turned a little bit lighter and doesn’t have quite as many spots on his head (ps this is his temp home while my 20g is cycling).

Also, I came across a few different sources that say axanthic axolotls often times die before the age of 2/3 due to something with their genetics… anyone else have additional info on this?

Thank you! Super interesting read. Trying to be proactive, as I have little info about the breeder/clutch. I usually throw in a few capatta leaves every time I do a water change and that seems to have a positive effect. Anyone have any other suggestions on ways to generally improve their immune systems and prevent against these kind of infections? Maintaining ideal water conditions, of course. I’ve also read mixed reviews on salt baths so have been hesitant to try…

Salt baths should only be used when saprolegnia appears. Holtfreters can be added to the tank to bring moderate salinity which will be far more preventative against saprolegnia.
