Here is another photo contest to think about, since there is a buzz about the calendar contest here. The association of southeast Asian nations (ASEAN) has a section called the ASEAN centre for biodiversity. They are running a photo contest of Asian biodiversity, and awarding a generous prize to the top three student, amateur, and professional contestants. Apparently, only residents of the ASEAN member states are eligible:

Brunei Darussalam
Cambodia
Indonesia
Lao PDR
Malaysia
Myanmar / Burma
Philippines
Singapore
Thailand
Viet Nam

I know I've seen posts from these countries on here before, but I'm sorry I don't remember anyone specifically. Why not try to bring attention to the Asian newts, salamanders, or other amphibians. Many of you are gifted photographers, and I can't imagine a judge who wouldn't favor a nice big close up of Laotriton or one of the gliding tree frogs. Contest ends August 30th. Good luck.

By coincidence, a friend sent me this today - another photo contest, this one from the National Wildlife Federation:

NWF is a US wildlife organization, best known (to me at least) for their 'backyard wildlife habitat' certification program.

Jen, shouldn't you really make a different thread for this?

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
