My family and I live in base housing so there isn't much room in the house to set up for breeding axolotls but I do have a large <car and a half> garage for my use. This is a standard garage /w poured concrete floor, drywall walls/ceiling, multiple outlets, water source right outside the rollup door. My problem is that I live in Middle Georgia and the summers are brutal here. I need an inexpensive way to keep this area cool enough to raise axolotls in. We can't do any permanent construction but temporary is fine. The plastic shoebox method is great for raising them, but I need a way to keep the temperature of the water safe for them. Any ideas?

Keep them as low to the ground as possible, any chance on providing a draft/wind with fans etc? or perhaps just use a big kiddie pool as the water amount should help to keep temps down?

I kept my axies right in front of the air conditioner when I lived in Alabama.

You could invest/create a chiller, or maybe build a small, insulated room in the garage that you can air condition.

My buddy <and fellow Caudata member> Fraustdemon used a kiddie pool with a homemade chiller <froma dorm size fridge>. Looks like I need to surf craigslist for a cheap little fridge. :D
