I thought as a special treat for my salamander buying him some waxworms, but i've heard salamanders and newts having problems going to the bathroom after eating them i'm curious about the overall opinion here is of them

They are very useful for picky eaters or underweight animals. They shouldn´t be used too regularly with healthy animals because they are high in fat and not nutritionally complete. As an occasional element of a varied diet, they are fine.

I have had problems with wax worms and juvenile newts, ever since then I have always pierced their skin a little and also dust with a vitamin supplement before feeding.
