Are moonlights a good option?

Does anyone have experience with moonlights? I've recently discovered them and wonder if they are a good alternative to typical aquarium lights that heat the water and are not pleasant for axies. I'd really like to be able to watch them at night!

I'm not sure if the moonlights are LED's, but if they don't put off heat I would see them as a great alternative to the typical aquarium lights.

I'm also not sure how much moonlights are, but here's a cheap and simple way that I am going to light my tank. I ordered four large computer fans (I think they're like 5"x5" I'm sure you can get smaller) and they have blue LED's built in. I got them on ebay for maybe a buck a piece from Hong Kong. This way I will have cooling and lighting all in one. Just gotta wire them up.

That's an awesome idea! Will you mount them to the tank hood? Would love to see picks of how it turns out.

I use my own painted LED lamps. I paint them with acrylic blend blue/green, that gives a nice light.

I got this picture a little to blue and dark. Hard to take photos on moonlight.

I will be posting a thread about my tank build as soon as it's finished, Scootles.

I am still building the stand. Then I have to build a top frame for the aquarium and the "hood". We're going to cut Plexiglas to fit and install the fans in that. Just keep an eye out in the gallery section....or maybe the tank set up section. I'm not sure which to put it in! ha.
