They are nutritionally incomplete, too fatty and hard to digest....generally they are considered a rather poor food for amphibians.
There are far better choices...mealworms are convinient but i wouldn´t use them...

As an staple they are very poor. I´m surprised your friend´s axolotl hasn´t had impaction problems yet.
Tell her to use earthworms...nothing beats earthworms, they are simply amazing.
