Hello there, I'm still debating about what my first newt type should be and I'm researching different types of them! I've found that I like the Cynops variety (or axolotls) and I was wondering if Cynops are generally terrestrial during their juvenile stage? Unfortunately, I cannot have something that's terrestrial in my dorm room and obviously, when obtaining a newt from a breeder, they are going to be juvenile. If anyone could give me an answer it would be much appreciated!

You have pinpointed the major stumbling block in the captive breeding of most newts. Most people don't want to deal with the terrestrial phase, or just find it difficult. There is one exception: Cynops cyanurus can stay aquatic throughout the juvenile period. Like all newts, they should be provided with a small haul-out area, but if they are not given the opportunity to become terrestrial, they will stay aquatic.

Interesting to know, as I am also looking into p a Cynops as one of the possibilities for me. so much information here to help figure things out.
