Are baby white axolotls more common than the black ones? Because I have been to lots of different pet shops an markets and most of the axolotls that they sell are white? Does anybody know why?

Over here it's a balanced match between leucistics (white with dark eyes) and dark wildtypes (we don't seem to have the various coloured light coloured wildtypes I've seen in some of the photoes from Ozzie owners. Golden albinoes and Albinoes are rarer here than the others and very very expensive ($50 for a 10cm one; $100+ for a larger one). Only a few breeders in NZ, mainly in the north - some have just started shipping so we may get some Goldies down in lower North Island soon!

In Australia we have heaps of golden and white axolotls. At most pet shops here they cost $30 and it doesn't matter how big they are. If I had to pay $50 to $100+ plus dollars for an axolotl I would have never been allowed to get one. I feel sorry for you people in New Zealand because you have to pay so much to get an axolotl.

in a petshop for the wildtype or leuc you pay $25 for a juvenile/12cm and $45 for an adult. Breeders are cheaper between $10-$20 for the leuc/wildtypes depending on size

when i was trying to find a new axi i couldnt find a black one anywhere! all anywhere had was albino, golden and a few wildtypes, such a difference to when i was living in nz!
