Hey everyone!

I received my new AquaClear 110 filter that will be replacing my Marineland 350 biowheel filter.

On my marineland, I zip-tied two sponges to the output in order to stop the flow. However, due to the design of the aquaclear, this is impossible to do on it.

I wanted to know how you other members out there diffuse the current from your filter? I don't want to turn the flow rate down, I want to receive maximum filtration, but keep the filter from blowing everything around.

I have searched online but found little to nothing on how to do this. The fixes I have found look ridiculously ugly, taped down with miles of all kinds of tapes.

The design of the aquaclear doesn't allow a bottle to just slip over it and hold on its own. I was thinking about getting some kind of ornament to perhaps diffuse it, but I am not sure what to get. My tank is about 24" high, and I don't want to use a lot of the axolotl's walking space for an ornament whose sole purpose is to diffuse the current.

At this point, I am considering returning the filter before I actually use it. My tank is a 36 gallon, and I suppose I can live with the biowheel filter for now. Most people just recommended me the aquaclear

Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you

Hi, I have a 45 gallon tank with a filter similar to what you have just purchased. I use live plants to diffuse the outflow - they grow high enough and the tops float at the surface where the water comes down.

Hope this helps

I appreciate the post, however I don't think live plants will work in my case. The filter will probably just blow them all over the place, and the plants I have for my axolotls are mostly small (because mine like to crawl on top of them)

Maybe you could get a tall ornament to reflect the flow back towards the wall, or you
could get a larger kind of sponge (even replacement for the foam part) and attach
that to it by turning the filter off and using some aquarium silicon to hold it in place on
the actual ramp that the water comes down?

Good Luck

Kind regards, Sebguy

Hey Sebguy,

I was considering these options as well. As for Ornament, I would love any suggestions. I can't really think of anything that is small at the bottom and large at the top to break up the current. Something similar to a round table on a smaller scale, so that my axolotls can run around at the bottom but have the current stopped up top.

As for siliconing the sponge in, that is also a possibility, however the sponge does have to be removed and cleaned periodically which will cause problems if it is siliconed in there.

Just a suggestion, maybe a mushroom? also there are some pretty funky driftwood pieces
out there

It has to be at least 12-13" in size, I have actually also considered a mushroom ornament but I couldn't find anything online.

The shape of these filters just makes it incredibly hard to get a proper spray bar on it. Only option is gluing it on which doesn't seem like it will hold, and zip-tying it is not possible with the design.

I am very desperate, someone must have an AC110 or little sibling AC70 on their tank!
