My paddy tail is still not eating, but he appears to be shedding (flaky skin and doing the yawn thing) - has anyone noticed their animals not eat or hide more during their shedding period?
I think I read some salamanders hide during that time - not sure about mine though.

It can happen. I would guess that a newly acquired animal would be more prone to do so.
However, the shedding itself should be quite fast, and not flaky at all, but one continuous uninterrupted shed.
If it´s flaky and it takes a long time to complete, something is wrong.

Hrm, he shredded once before and it was fast, it is flaky now, I don't get what's wrong with him :-(
He was doing great, eating a lot and getting fat, I can't figure out why the change.
I am wondering if he is eating some stray guppy fry or some little snails I have in there, and just not hungry.
What would cause a newt to suddenly stop eating?

If you´ve had it for a short time, it may be paying the the consequences of the importation now. Sometimes they look alright, behave alright, then suddenly fall ill and go down hill. This is usually because their inmune system is very weak and conditions are not ideal.
I would make sure everything is just perfect.
