My son brought home a firebellied newt over a week ago from the pet store and the little guy won't eat. I've gone through the info on this site and have tried everything I can get my hands on, frozen bloodworms, bits of live earthworm from the bait store, small mealworms, small crickets and of course the newt bites the pet store insists they will eat. i've left them with him, tried dangling them from toothpicks but nothing works.
The newt seems active, it likes to go in the water, hide behind its rock, bask on the rock, but it needs to eat.
I'm trying to order some blackworms, but they won't get here until late next week (we live in a small town, overnight delivery usually means three days even when it's not the holidays) and I'm afraid the little guy might starve before then.
Anyone have any live blackworms or know of any I could buy? I live two hours northwest of Edmonton, but am willing to drive to pick them up.
