Not sure where to place this question as it's clearly not a live food I'm referring to but was not sure where else it should go.

I've used Exo-Terra Shrimp and Exo Terra Fish(both freshwater) for my newt. I've also used Juarassidiet Grasshoppers and their 'Pillars for my Anurans (not the treefrogs though). They all list an abbreviated nutrional analysis that does not include the calcium or phosphorous content. I assumed that, the fish, due to having an endoskeleton would be a decent source of calcium. I did some checking and found this to be accurate but regrettably I can't recall the source. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, for any of you who have used Zoo Med, Exo-Terra or Jurassidiet canned food, what have you found to be the shelf life once opened and refrigerated?

Good fortune to all,
Mal

I have never been a huge fan of canned invertebrates. I cannot imagine the nutrition content to be any better than a live insect but I have no data to back that statement up. Most of the herps that I have tried them on, caudates included, have refused them. I tried that canned river shrimp once and my wife threatened to kick me out of the house because of the scent. I seem to remember my T. shanjing really taking to the catepillars though. In any event, once the can is opened the process of decay starts so I would not keep them around too long, and definitely refrigerate the leftovers between feedings.
