This is my tank which contains two axolotl, Jeffery my wild type adult male( currently hiding in his drain pipe) and Princess my juvenile un sexed. I am waiting for delivery of a few more plants and hopefully that may be it for a while! The tank is still doing its cycling and I am doing daily NO2 and NO3 checks plus 20-30% water changes...and now seeing signs of improovement..i.e the water shrimp are surviving and snails are growing..both to tempt my little guys. Any comments will be appreciated

That tank is on the small side for two adults. But otherwise I think your substrate and your setup looks nice.

Hey BellaBelloo, are you able to tell me the dimensions of your tank please?
we have one that looks similar size and are planning on putting 2 axolotls into it.
Cheers

2 1/2 feet in length, 18inch width and 18 high, I have now added a few more plants including the java fer...which they love floating in. I have also raised the hight of the water after Kaysies comment...I also measured the one I refered to being little..only to discover that its caught up with the male( he's over a year old) and she( its) approx 6 month old....a massive growth spurt! I think the tank is fine at the moment. Do look however on the other tank set ups..I picked up so much imfo on this site..I spend most evenings looking at various threads..now onto the older stuff now!

Your setup does look nice! How big is your adult? We have one adult male in a 2ft tank, he is 32cm long and makes it look cramped.

Having now found the tape measures that the kids have pinched( great weapons apparently) , and lured him in with food, he measured 23cm..which sounds tiny compared to yours! He is far less active than the other ..usually, but having done a 20% water change and added another shrimp, he is now being harrassed by the little critter, so is now in hunt mode.. Could watch them for hours

Adults tend to be quite lazy, often not moving for hours. Juveniles are more active.

None of mine are over 25 cm or so. I wouldn't worry about yours being runty :)
