Antimicrobial Foam

I was wondering if this detrimental to caudates? I was thinking about getting some to put in my basement (so that I would not have to run upstairs every time to wash my hands between enclosures). I in general do not handle my animals however when feeding and servicing the enclosures I often have to pick an individual up to move it out of the way, etc.

Hey Chip,

As this will leave a residue on your hands, I would expect it to irritate the newts and any moisturizers in it to be problematic. An easier method is to use cheap latex gloves which you can rinse before use (if you don't have a sink, in a bucket will work) this way you can use one pair of gloves to a tank. The foam also willnot remove or neutralize amphibian toxins. You can often get the gloves from drugstores and even the paint sections of some hardware stores.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
