I was reading up on housing my Long Toed Salamanders and I was wondering about the substrate. Because I live in Toutle, All the soil around here is really ashy from Mt. St. Helens.
Is it safe to use the soil, or mud from the pond I got them from or should I just buy some soil?

I use EarthGro brand from Home Depot. I usually mix it 1:1 with coco fiber.

I deleted your other question on the old thread, but I'll answer it here: this species is a terrestrial species; they will likely drown in a semi-aquatic setup.

Thank you so much for helping me... I had no idea what I was doing!
