I recently moved into a house with no AC. Honestly my Chinese fire belly newt was the last thing on my mind in the process. Realizing how stressed he seemed I bought a thermometer and cooling setup yesterday. Turns out the water temp was 84!!!! Now I have it slowly fluxing between 68 and 74. I know that's still highish, but Im improving my system and I think I can start maintaining below 72. Anyway my newt hasn't eaten since I moved (~5 days), and a friend was caring for it before then so I don't know when the last time she ate was. I have tried the pellets (friend bought them...), meal worms and cut up red earth worms. Im out of ideas. She is really skinny, and is more active now that the temperature is better, but still hydrophobic and anorexic.

Keep the temperature cool and don't hassle her. Newts tend to not eat after a stressful period. Pellets are extremely unappetizing to newts and mealworms are not a good food choice either. The red earthworms are healthy but excrete a foul smell that can deter a newt. Try bookworms or tubifex, or another species of earthwrm till she starts eating. Important is that you let her become comfortable again. Level the food then LEAVE. She'll be more likely to eat when alone. That she's active is a good sign that she's still healthy,im sure she'll eat soon enough

Still hasn't eaten. I got pinhead crickets and frozen bloodoworms today.... I tried the cricket first and no interest. I placed her in the water and for once she actually stayed so I rapidly got the bloodoworms and tried to melt them right by her. Nothing. Swam away and went back on land within 5 min. I also melted some bloodworms on land and got no interest.

Im afraid its a parasite. I don't know how much she ate while I had somebody watching her, but I have only seen her eat once... She is getting weaker, wont jump into the water when i try to pick her up like she used to. Doesn't move from one spot to another.

Im wondering if I should treat for parasites. She was about the same weight as my other newt when I bought her, which was skinny, but the other newt has put on significant weight. Im going to try force feeding tomorrow after I try cricket on a tweezers and yard bugs/worms. Im not sure what other options I have here... I highly doubt that trying new kinds of foods is going to work. Maybe cut up night crawlers in the next few days if she lives. The only thing I have seen her eat were cut up red worms, but the one she ate wiggled a lot and the ones I have now hardly move after I cut them.
