I'm really considering getting an Axolotl, however I'm not sure I would be able to dedicate myself to its care whilst I'm away from home at least 12 hours a day. I wouldn't just get one and leave it...but my job requires insane hours at times I don't see it being an issue during the colder seasons, but I'm worried about when it gets warmer out, and being able to keep the tank cool throughout the day. Would it be a large commitment to own of these little guys? How would I keep him alive and well during the summer and spring? This would be the make or break of my final decision!

It kinda depends on how hot It gets in your house. For example if you like a cool 70 degrees with your AC just make sure you get a screened lid rather then a closed lid. The evaporation alone will probably keep your axie cool. Leaving it alone for 13 hours probably won't be an issue either. They are pretty chill and shouldn't really be fed everyday either.

So as long as you get that temperature thing figured out i'd say with a little prep you will be fine.

A dedicated tank chiller will take care of your temperature problems but will cost a pretty penny. Best bet would be to keep the tank out of direct sunlight and in the coolest part of your house. As for feeding an adult lotl can go a day or two between feedings so you should be alright and after a tank cycles it doesn't really take much to keep good water quality.
