Hello, I’m having an ammonia problem in my tank
I’m dealing with it by cleaning out gunk, replacing filter workings, daily water change
But since my axolotl is so stressed, I was wondering if I could use an ammonia neutralizer? Will that make him sick?
If I can, what brands would you recommend?

what level is the ammonia at?
what is the ph and temperature of the tank?
adding a small amount of salt will help axolotls deal with small ammonia spikes, with large ammonia spikes the axolotl is sometime better removed and tubbed whilst it is dealt with.
prime tends to be the ammonia lock that is most popular but even then after a period of time the toxic levels will go back up unless the cause is found and dealt with.

The ammonia is at 2 ppm rn
pH is about 7, temp about 60°F [I think that’s like 15°C sorry I’m american]
The cause has been found at dealt with, turns out gunk got stuck on the bottom of the filter so it couldn’t really work, so I cleaned it off and replaced the inside bits
Do you think I should salt him? Idk if that’d make him more stressed out cause he is. Really not doing well-

50% holtfreters is normally used, this is both to make the water more suitable and as a protective, the salt acts as a protective/buffer against ammonia spikes and fungal issues, the bi-carb increases the kh and buffers the ph (bringing the ph up as well), the chlorides help protect against nitrites and nitrates, the potassium and calcium increase the mineral level (it is also useful to add 0.1g/l magnesium sulphate as well)
your ph ideally needs to be increased as once nitrates are in higher levels you will have ph drops and possible cycle crash.
due to your low ph/temp your free ammonia although stressful isn't at deadly levels, still not very pleasant though.
