My ambystoma laterale is way more aggresive and bold than my tigrinum! Isnt that odd? My laterale waits outside of his hide for food every night. And when I open his cage to feed him he looks at me. Then I put a piece of worm on an end of a stick and he looks up at it and lounges at it with his front feet of the ground! My tiger comes out at night basicly when I am asleep. He does come out when he gets hungry every one to four days. Sometimes I hold a piece of worm outside his hide and he eats it and goes back in his hide. He has some nice burrows as does the laterale. The laterale bit my finger a couple times too. How often do I need to change the substrate?

Not especially. I've found blue-spots to be highly aggressive.

It depends on what substrate you have.
