I recently decided I wanted a group of alpine newts (ichthyosaura alpestris) I'm thinking of two pairs as I read that competition increases breeding behavior. I want to know what some of you guys do to keep yours. Size of tank. aquatic or semi aquatic. I was thinking a 40 gallon breeder and doing semi aquatic all year round but I read that they can be kept fully aquatic with some floating land all year also. Which would be better? I will appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thanks I've read that a few times just wondering what worked for other people

I keep my 3.4 group aquatic year round, though they do have access to small islands covered in java moss (these are rarely utilized).

My group produces offspring every spring - about 3 years ago I decided to provide a lot of "support" for the larvae in the form of tons of supplemental feedings and separating larvae by size into different aquariums. I think that year the final count of metamorphosed juveniles was 151. So my ration of 3 males to 4 females can be pretty fecund...

Thank you so much. I think I will go with fully aquatic and the cork bark I two pairs good though and what size tank would fit them well
