Almost ready for new axe...(Tank Cycling Q)

I have been cycling my tank for about a week now, but i have just been reading about how you should do water changes while cycling. Is this true ?

Also my pH test came out to 8.2, is this bad ?

What method are you using to establish the cycle? Have you tested parameters for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate as well?
