I'm having real trouble this year with blanketweed, and the recommended barley straw isn't really effective.
I've read great things about a product called Algofin, has anyone used it and more importantly is it safe for amphibians?

Hi Neil,

I emailed Tetra via their "tetra care program" and got an 800 number to call, so I could ask for you.

I take it you are in the UK somewhere? Since when I did a search on the product I got two pages of german, and then mostly UK site addys after that.

Also, I didn't see Algofin listed in the Tetra product catalog. The site said they would answer the email in 24 business hours so I should hear from by Tuesday.

Hello,
Thank you for registering for Tetra Care. Tetra Care is really to deal with
the beginner fish aquarium keeper and their questions.
Algo Fin is acutally not sold in the US. It is marketing in Europe and the
UK to deal with pond algae. It should not be used in an aquarium. It will
however be safe for amphibians and other wildlife that will visit the pond.
Best regards,
Tetra Care

Hi Sharon
Many thanks for posing the question on my behalf. And it's excellent news all round.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
