Airstones

It depends how large the air stone is and how powerful the air pump you have attached to it is. A small air stone with a moderate air flow is not going to create much current. Most pet stores sell the gang valves which allow you to control the flow of air and thus the current.

I have a small airstone about 2cm long shaped like a cylinder. It is away from the hiding places of my axie's and set in the open area of the tank. They don't seem to mind it at all. The water flow is fine but if they seem a little stressed I turn it off for a while.

I have used a small airstone in my tank previously and that was fine. The long, rectangular ones that create a "curtain" of bubbles for use at the back of the tank create a lot more water disturbance and I wouldn't recommend.

Thanks everyone
I haven't got an airstone at the moment just trying to get idea's for my new tank :D I think the cutain of bubbles looks really good but not at the detriment of my axie. So I will leave it out

Thanks again x

My waterflow takes miniscule air bubbles with it. I hope I dont need to use a air stone, because I cant handle the noise of it. (my tank stand in my bethroom) If i get my axo's and i see they need a air stone im taking a air stone for inside the tank. I had 1 first but that one whas broke. And the pet store didnt had a other 1 :(. So i leave it be for the moment now.

I put an airstone in my tank yesterday and my axies are fine with it. They have been sitting in and around the bubbles since I've put it in.

Hi everyone
My entire filtration system is run by 3 air stones on 1 air pump . The outflow tubes are high in the tank but I often find the axies with thier heads in the bubbles and strongest water flow in the tank.
I dont think they would do this if it was too strong a current. I do believe you could create too much current if you put a huge pump on to power the air stones or you used the wand type air tubes.
Just my thoughts.

Airstones are down to personal choice. I don't feel axolotls need them, thats what their gills are for and if you add too much air to the water you may find the gills will shrink back.
My water has very little movement as the filter is turned down on the lowest setting. They get enough water movement when I clean the tank every 2-3 days.

ive got two small cylinder air stones in my tank, one is in the plants and the other is under the rocks and the axies love them, they swim down over the bubbles quite often but they never seem stressed.

We have a small air stone and Stumpy seems to love standing over it. Think he likes his chin being tickled! We have put lots of rocks over it, and tried to keep it out of their way, but him in particualr always makes a beeline for it, and likes standing right over it. I hope it doesn't cause him any harm. He must like it though if he keeps going back. We have turned the airflow right down though thanks to advice from the pros x
