I have two juvenile axololts. I keep them both in separate enclosures with about 14inches water depth.

I do not use filters but change the water daily, offering them cool aged water (to prevent exposing them to chlorine.

Would it be better to do a total daily water change OR do a daily 20% water change?

It depends. What is the total water volume (liters or gallons)? What is the likelihood of leftover food being left in the tank if you don't do the total change daily? This would depend on the type of food being offered and the type of substrate on the bottom.

If you are OK with doing the total daily changes, there is no reason not to. The problems will start, however, when you need to go on vacation, or you have other activities in life that make you start to "slip up" on the daily changes.

I am fine to do daily water changes - that is no issue. I read though that salamanders can go into ''water shock'' if the water is completely changed...is that not true?
