I'm currently looking in to getting a tank chiller for my lotls, since it's getting warmer and their tank is creeping up near 70 degrees F. They seem to be fine so far, but I don't want to cause them any unnecessary stress. Currently, my 20gal tank set up has one bubbler and an overhanging filter, As I am a college student I don't have too much money to spend, but I've set aside enough to buy a chiller for them. If you have any advice on what I should invest in that would be great. So far I'm looking at these two chillers

chiller one
chiller two

I've also added a pic of my current tank set up.

I'd try a fan blowing over the water first.

Also I hate to burst your bubble but if your tank does end up needing to be cooled by more than a few degrees, neither of those chillers will be able to cool a tank larger than 10 gallons by more than a few degrees...

Not to steal this thread but, how much do u think the second cooler cold chill a 55 gal at most. Since it's already getting hot were i am.

I would expect a fan will work about the same as those low end chillers. I have an iceprobe chiller and an aquaeuro 1/13 Hp chiller. The iceprobe is similar to the ones you have pictured and is an entry level chiller. The aquaeuro actually chills. They cost between 300.00 and 400.00.

I just found a used aquaeuro chiller 1/13 HP on ebay for considerably less than brand new. So far it seems to be working. I found that my 20 gallon long needs two iceprobes and a fan to bring the temp down to 64-66F range. For this, should have bought the chiller first. Just sharing my expensive mistake, better to spend some money on a chiller than buy something that doesn't work as well as needed and then go buy the chiller.
