Question: Adopted Axolotls - First Impressions please?

These are two I adopted the other day. I am posting the pics of them so you can comment on what you think of them. I will then post later their history. Would appreciate first impressions

Well. It looks like they were well fed and that's about the only positive thing I see. They look as if they were in a cramped tank with other fish. That could have caused all the battle wounds and short gills stalks. Fish nibble at the gills and cramped spacing would prove to be a perfect battle ground for such big axies. The hyperpigmentation could be due to age but it is not hard to assume bad water quality was the culprit considering their overall condition. I hope u treat them well and on behalf of the little ones, thanks for rescuing!

The gill stalks are short but the gill filaments do look nice and fluffy which should be good for you going forward (their gill stalks may just be short, that has some genetic component but the filaments are usually the first to go when water quality goes down) They do look very well fed (I'm assuming they weren't kept on gravel or small rocks of any kind? that could be a huge concern if they weren't well fed/taken care of...) but as for the missing foot and tail and what not I'm sure they'll heal up with clean cool water

Also is the lucy's front right foot twisted backwards?

The first images of the light coloured one was in with goldfish so thats why gills a mess.
the dark one i belive was nibbled by fish and other axolotls. not sure what caused the dislocated leg though
