Adding plants...?

I have a quick question,
can adding plants (into a relatively new tank) introduce bad bacteria and/or fungi? and also, can it help or speed up the cycling process?

Like adding extra animals, it's recommended to quarantine plants for at least 30 days before adding them to the aquarium.
