I've seen a few people talk about having added extra surfaces/levels to their tank, and I was curious how that's done.

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank.

Thanks!

Just build a platform out of aquarium safe materials, use silicone if needed. Make sure it can withstand water weight and the weight of axolotls, and has no sharp edges. There's no set way to do it. Be creative. I siliconed fake silk plant leaves on the supports for mine to give it some class.

If people have a two-tiered tank, could you please post photos? I'd love to see them!! ^_^

I no longer have it set up. I believe there is a photo in my albums of a second level in my old 55 gallon. That's the only one I would have. It's really not that hard, and you'd have to figure out what materials are available to you.

I siliconed a piece of plexiglass at an angle to the tank wall, so the axies would 'slide' up it rather than getting stuck underneath.

Overall, it wasn't used that much and eventually I took it out.

I toyed with adding some shelves in my axolotl tank, then I noticed that they liked to lurk higher up in some plastic ivy stuff that had slipped in to the tank. It had originally been used around the outlet pipe of the filter. I just added more and the axies now lurk in different layers of that.
