(These aren't mine, they belong to a close friend.)
My friend has a tank with a few growing clawed frogs. She bought a new filter about a month before, and when she came home from work, it wasn't working, and in the day without it, they managed to make obscene amounts of filth. We got two smaller new filters to replace the one large one, in case one goes out and changed 2/3 the water. They mostly were seemed happy and energetic, and we changed most the water. The ammonia and all was still slightly present, but was getting progressively better. They were happy to see us and nibbling up their food. </recent history>
Today, one of them had a strange fuzzy growth on an eye. She separated him and changed more water. He apparently got a little better by the time I came to her house, but I don't think he can see very well. (Usually the sight of his feeding spoon or a finger makes him jump up, which he didn't do, but when the food landed on his head, he'd gobble it up like usual.) He also keeps flicking at his eye with his hands, and does that weird "blinking" thing they do, but really often.
She's been watching the others like a hawk, and they all seem to be just fine.
Then a housemate came over, and said she had noticed they'd been fighting right before the water got bad, and we suspect he hurt it, and the water got it infected.
Being that I'm a fish person, my fist instinct is salt. However, I've heard VERY different opinions on salt for aquatic frogs. She's been told Amoxicillin. We have him in spring water quarantine, and are unsure if we should do anything else, but we both wanted other opinions.
