 I just put 7 of my biggest, healthiest babies in Un dechlorinated water. Basically I forgot to put it in, what happened was I normally dechlorinate the water in the bathroom but today thought I'd do it in my bedroom as my baby sister was upstairs. I completely forgot and was doing a part water change. I siphoned the waste out like usual and then refilled what I'd taken out (not much ) with Un dechlorinated water :( luckily I needed my phone to take a picture, when I looked at the side to get it I saw the bottle of dechlorinator on my side. I quickly grabbed it dosed up the rest of the water in the bucket (not with the babies). I then completely swapped the babies to a separate tub with dechlorinated water in. Phew. Sadly they were still in that water for about 1-2 minutes. They seem fine but are going to the surface for air quite a bit. :'( they are nearly 5 weeks old and under 1 inch long. About 2 cm. I am gutted. Are they going to definitely die or do they stand a chance at all. They weren't in it for long and because it was just a part water change it was only a small amount. Because they are surfacing for air though it has affected them. Help ! Is there anything else I should do. -other than never do this again. Also at what age/size should I start looking for homes for them I have 127 so need to be starting early.

From experience that short time probably won't harm them. Infact I have read that a bath in chlorinated ( untreated) tap water can be of value in treating mild fungus etc.I think moving them on depends on experience of recipient......as long as they have four legs and are on bloodworms many people will be happy to watch them grow, or you could wait until they are two and a half to three inches an on earthworms....makes care easier for a newbie!..GOOD LUCK with rehoming that number!!!

Thank you. I realise the size etc they need to be when they leave. But I was wondering if I should advertise early to see if I get interest? They are already eating frozen bloodworm. And are growing fast :)

I know someone who kept they're Axolotl in normal chlorinated tap water all the time as they weren't even aware about dechlorinating:confused:, those Axolotl's are still alive but now are kept in dechlorinated water. The water declorinates its self while left standing so after so long i believe the water is safe, just not great for the Axies while they are in there at the beginning depending on how long they are exposed

Also, usually 2-3 inches is big enough to sell. Depends if you are going to post them or have them collected. When posting Axolotl its strongly advised to use a polystyrene box with a plastic bag inside half water half air with the bag large enough to fill the box so it has no movement. Then place that polystyrene box inside a carboard box padded with packaging paper or bubble wrap. You can also put ice cubes in ziplock bags around the bag which holds the Axolotl to try keep the water as cool as possible during transport. I have posted 2 inch Axolotls via post with no issue, just always use special delivery to get them there fast, state they are live fry, and plaster the final box you post with fragile marked packaging tape to make courier workers aware to be careful.

I'd always feel safer with collection though

Not necessarily. If the water is treated with just chlorine then the chlorine will dissipate in to the atmosphere in a day or so if left in open buckets (or an aquarium). But if the water is treated with chloramine (chlorine+ammonia) then it will not dissipate no matter how long you leave standing in buckets. Only way to get rid of chloramine is to use a water conditioner that takes care of it (often they remove the chlorine part and lock the ammonia).

Hey it's alright the chlorine really won't hurt them I have 100 axie babies and I change out old water with chlorinated there all fine and there in individual closed containers they are extremely hardy creatures

This is bad advice. This might work for you in your water but is an exception.
